I am interested in Southeast Asian history and literature, especially the knowledge and cultural production in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. At ICCS, I will develop two research projects which deal with Cold War literature and culture, memory governance and historical justice. The first project looks into Sinophone Malaysian literature since the 1940s and its relation to the Cold War, including the debates on literary thoughts and ideologies, issues on modernity, Chineseness, ethnic relations and national culture. The second project compares the narratives of the political exiles in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, exploring their narrative strategy and ideological struggles that influence their mnemonic articulations on national violence and gender narratives.
