2023-09-21 - 2023-11-05

B1, Library

In response to the 2050 Net Zero Emissions Declaration, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) is taking a diverse approach to implement the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). One of the pathways for sustainable governance involves the integration of smart technology and art, focusing on global sustainability issues.

Human self-reflection

How can we forge a relationship between
posthuman and diverse species?

Professor Wen-Shu Lai and her team at the Hsinchu Living Museum have carefully curated the exhibition “Repetition and Difference: Posthuman.Diverse Species,” raising a fundamental question: “How can we forge a relationship between posthuman and diverse species?”

Repeated genetic modification has affected every species on this planet. It’s a marked process of differentiation, a result of rapid evolution driven by human intervention. Differentiation has become the current mode of human existence and thinking as well as a state of deterritorialization. If it becomes a reality and a belief to technologically modify humanity, other species, and then our relationship with the other, are we also moving away from freedom as we march toward it? Once free will is phantomized, does equality still exist?

The exhibition Repetition and Difference: PosthumanDiverse Species will be on display at The Arts Center in NYCU from September 21st to October 24th

The exhibition “Repetition and Difference: Posthuman.Diverse Species” is on display at the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Arts Center from September 21, 2023, to October 24, 2023. The exhibition features the participation of 25 artists and the 2 teams of Hsinchu Living Museum and Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency, MOA showcasing a total of 22 works encompassing various media, digital computation, and biotechnological art. Each of these works addresses the challenges and intricate relationships currently faced by post-humans, diverse species, and the ecological environment, presenting their viewpoints and responses.
