Abstract
Unlike landscape studies which lay stress on visuality, this seminar looks into the work of Shanghai new-sensation school from the perspective of soundscapes and sound technologies. It analyzes how modern audio experiences were transformed into the narrative works and how new transcultural intertextuality and erotic imagination were constructed, in order to explicate the cultural politics in the writing of Shanghai new-sensation school and the cosmopolitism and modernity in Shanghai during the 1930s.
