This zine documents a series of events that Stranger Cooperation organized at Dongmen Market, Hsinchu.

【Editor's Words】

When we first stepped into Dongmen Market, we were deeply moved by its atmosphere. People with diverse looks and classes filled the market. Many Southeast Asian restaurants and miscellaneous shops opened inside and around the market, and their customers are mostly migrant workers from South-East Asian countries. Although Southeast Asian culture has gradually made its way into Taiwan, what Taiwanese people tend to understand as "Southeast Asia" is often incomplete, even reproduced stereotypes. We established Stranger Cooperation to facilitate authentic knowledge and communication. From a small corner of the market, we hope to nurture cultural exchanges across nationalities and social classes to create a new tapestry of cultures. In the past year, the dilapidated market welcomed new businesses. We are grateful that the events we organized attracted people who are interested in Southeast Asian culture to Dongmen Market to watch movies together and to talk to each other. Stranger Cooperation is an open platform for people from diverse countries and lands to discuss issues in different countries, using different languages. This zine is a record of Stranger Cooperation's activities at Dongmen Market during the past year. We deeply appreciate the space that Dongmen Market generously provided for us to discuss Southeast Asian issues face-to-face in the historical district of Hsinchu.
