潘毅指出，本書的中心思想是要把「階級帶回分析的核心」。相對於中國大陸，台港因為歷史因素而缺乏階級視野，這使得勞動力市場上的階級矛盾往往被理解成種族矛盾，潘毅解釋，這就好比說把「台港年輕人的就業問題」看成是「大陸人跑來台港搶工作」；階級視野則是試圖把勞資這兩個截然二分的維度呈現出來，呈現出「資本的流動以及工人的力量」，我們也就能從就業問題中看到，「是資本在欺負我們」，也不會「輕輕放過資本家」
