巴迪烏討論有關「事件」的概念，對他而言，事件是具有政治性的。但是，這是什麼意思？在何種狀況下事件才具有政治性？首先，事件具有政治性的前提是，此事件之物質性是集體性的(collective)，或是屬於集體的多數性(collective multiplicity)。巴迪烏指出，此處的「集體性」不是數字性(numerical)的概念。「事件具有本體性質的集體性，也就是說，此事件提供 了真實地召喚全部的媒介。集體性意味著立即地普遍化。」 “We say that the event is ontologically collective to the extent that it provides the vehicle for a virtual summoning of all. ‘Collective’ means immediately universalizing.” 而政治的效應即在於「對每一個X，都有思想。」(for every x, there is thought.” (141)
