歷史的虛構與重探：Jean-Luc Nancy 指出我們的時代自覺於歷史的虛構，而幾乎無法面對歷史，無法處理歷史的窘迫。我們被懸置於二者之間，或者無法再現正在發生中的事件，或者只有虛構之敘述，而沒有任何事情發生。Jean-Luc Nancy 建議我們重新面對「歷史」的問題。Jean-Luc Nancy 的基本論點是：歷史是主體的本體性構成(history, behind its watered-down historicist orm, is the ontological constitution of the subject itself)。他指出，主體性的本質與結構是使主體成為自身，此成為自身的過程是透過在生成過程中寫入自我本身的法則，而同時也將此向自身呈現自己真的形式與意念，而獲得自己生成過程的各種衝動之法則。可見的形式。The subject becomes what it is (its own essence) by representing itself to itself, by becoming visible to itself in its true form, its its true eidos or idea. 此處，Jean-Luc Nancy 補充說明，主體向自身再現自身，此再現之原始意義不是二度呈現，而是「向自我的呈現」(“a presentation to the self”)(“Finite History” 148)。
