Course Objectives:

This course is the second unit of Taiwan Popular Culture, a course designed for the International Program of Taiwan Studies. The aim of this unit is to lead students to read relevant materials of and discuss the issue of identity experienced in Taiwan. We’ll look into this issue through historical perspectives as well as the ways in which the sentiments of identity, or split identity, have been expressed through different art forms, including popular art, film, theatre and literature.
