The balcony is supposed to be a space that we can get in touch with the
outside world. However, this balcony seems to separate the connection
between the house and the outter world for we can't see what's the
scenery around the house. Furthermore, the chairs look like mummy's
coffins. The coffins give the painting the atmosphere of mystery. It
seems that  there is some secret hidden inside the coffins.

    圖中的木箱就像一具具的棺材,其中一具像人般地坐
在椅子上,象徵著人如行屍走肉般生活著,同時也被拘束

     The picture will form the happy atmosphere if those
coffins are replaced by a family. On the contrary, it only 
makes me frightened when I see these four coffins. The 
whole family cannot escape from death and their destinies 
are the same. The clock behinds those coffins reminds me 
that man must leave the world if they are destined to death, 
no matter they are young or old. Although they are dead,
they are still bounded by many rules in the society; thus, 
the balcony are put in front of those coffins. front of them.

     Through my own imagination, this scene could be a happy 
family who pleasantly rest themselves by looking outside 
from the balcony.However, what seems to be weird is that
each of them looks like coffin. In this case, I seem to smell 
certain gloomy atmosphere.

      In the balcony, Rene Magritte didn't use the faces or bodies
 of man, where father, mother, children or even grandparents in it.
 Instead, Magritte used 4 boxes of coffin to expressed the grief
 and sadness in a family. All the members of the family intend to
 escape from this kind of family as Magritte place them outside
 the balcony, where every member are facing on the open air.
 Nevertheless, they were captured by the rods before them.
 The painter also placed a white flower beside them as if they
 are lamenting for a certain kind of grief in their life.
