However, this balcony seems to separate the connection between the house and the outter world for we can't see what's the scenery around the house. Furthermore, the chairs look like mummy's coffins. All the members of the family intend to escape from this kind of family as Magritte place them outside the balcony, where every member are facing on the open air. Nevertheless, they were captured by the rods before them. The painter also placed a white flower beside them as if they are lamenting for a certain kind of grief in their life.
