在「征服者」這幅畫中， 畫面前景是身著黑色西裝、 黑色領花、 白色豎領的紳士， 但是， 此人的頭卻被一塊畫 有類似八字鬍花紋的 扁平木板取代。 背景下方是 黑白色的 不真實的 「山景」， 上方是紅色漸次 轉黑的「天空」， 半空中漂浮著 一段從地面拔起、 根鬚怒伸的半截樹幹。
這幾種物體的奇異組合， 似乎把沒有色彩、 沒有生命力的大地、 血色氾濫的天空、 斫傷的樹木， 與沒有面孔、沒有頭腦、沒有人性的「紳士」做無理性的 拼貼與重疊， 而強制產生 某種因果關係。 「征服者」 的沒有人性， 導致大地的死亡。

I am of the opnion that the fine suit represent the man's appearence. He appears to be a gentleman with a bow tie. However, it is very sarcastic that his head and body has turned into wood. The wooden head and body represents his real being. What he really does is so cool and cruel without any feelings and sympathy. As a result, he is called "The Conqueror." I think that Rene Magritte painted this one to condeme those who appear to be good and kind to people,but actually do great harm to the society and its people, especially those with power and priviledge. name: English Dept. This is because in human history there are incalculable conquerors who succeed at the expense of peace. Thus,we are not unfamiliar with this reality and know that behind every ambitious conqueror there are terrible consequenses.
