在「虛假的鏡子」 ("The False Mirror") 這幅畫中，我們看到的不是一面鏡子，而是一個放大的眼睛，眼睛表面反映出藍天白雲的景象。這是馬格利特對人們眼睛欺瞞盲目的本質所作的批判。人們所看到的時常不是事物的真貌，人們的眼睛只會反映出如藍天白雲般平靜安詳的表相。

    在這幅畫裏,眼睛所反照的藍天白雲看似寧靜,四周暗色的
眼框卻透露陰霾之感. 而馬格利特以僵硬工筆的畫風作畫,
則表達其視眼睛之鏡為虛假的見解.

 1. 在高塔中我望相藍天，那棉花般的雲朵，垂手可得。
禁錮在高塔中唯一的樂趣就是想像飛翔，從這唯一有新鮮空氣的
窗口，與各式過往變幻不定的雲朵交會。
    啊!那黑黑的東西是甚麼？大概是快下雨了吧!
 2.你以為看得見的器官是眼睛、是瞳孔？在畫家筆下，那最
可能成為眼睛形象的圓形黑塊﹝瞳孔﹞，卻是畫面中最不該
出現的「污點」；它的黑與藍天白雲極端不協調。「它」懸
置在空中。 Lacan說得好，視現/限的基礎即在於它有「盲點」。
Magritte將之形象化了。

I believe one of the weakness of humans is that we always try to deceive
ourselves when we encounter something terrible. This weakness shows that
we don't have enough courate to deal with the difficulty in our lives.
Sometimes we try to comfort ourselves that the problem is not a big deal
and we don't have to worry about it. However, since we don't try to face
the reality, the problem would only be bigger and bigger. So, I do
believe that the real attitude towardlife is that we have to look into
the nature of the reality or the fact, thus we can deal with the
problem.

    Yes, that's the truth. Human eyes
usually see the beautiful sides of
things. We always shut our eyes to see
the storm, and deceive ourselves by
only seeing the sunny day. This picture
implies ours eyes is just like a "false
mirror" which usually reflects illusions.
Actually, I feel it is making fun at the
saying "we see, so we believe."

    剛看到這幅畫的感覺是寧靜且祥和的,相較於現世的
混亂景象,彷彿人類又找回了最起始的清澈與單純,
一切回轉到無塵的自然.然而此眼神中卻感受不到
聚精會神的力量,彷彿只是呆板地望著,不加任何思索.
如果不看標題,此畫猶如在透露著眼睛所看到的現實
與自然間的對比.

      眼睛有如湖水一般,眼睛所見景象就如所有景物都會
倒映在湖面上,僅能反映事情的外貌,至於事情的真實面
就像湖水般越深越不可測.此外,畫中的白雲遮住了瞳孔
讓人愈發看不清楚事實.

    眼睛素來有靈魂之窗之稱,但圖中的眼睛似乎不帶有
一絲生命的色彩,死板板的反映出天空的景象.天空雖然
平靜,但內心是否也如此平靜呢?所見不代表所想,這是
我對這幅畫的感想.

     Here is a false mirror that reflects an unreal 
peacefulness. Our eyes are false mirrors and what 
we see is that unreal peacefulness.　Reality is too 
cruel, thus we deny it. We cannot see or do not want
to look at the dark side of the world.
