《黑暗的日常》將鏡頭對準了在吉隆坡十五碑柱著白杖生活的視障群體，從工作、休閒、感情、夢想及日常生活等各方面講述他們的喜怒哀樂，也嘗試揭露在身體的「殘」之外，那個讓他們日常生活、社區內移動、公共交通及就業機會之外，讓他們受到很多限制及打擊的「障」。

故事圍繞著Berjaya按摩中心展開。男主角Ken是店裡的經理，他二十年前就到吉隆坡工作了，但隨著視力越來越弱，他能工作的種類也變得越來越少。曾經年少輕狂的他，有許多異於常人的經歷。喜歡聽歌的他，剛學會用手機K歌軟體來唱歌。一次意外中，他發現原來要看清楚親人的最後一面是那麼困難的事。

而常到Berjaya按摩中心找朋友，在公司當接線員的Penny，則是本片的另一主角。她是B3低視能人士，性格樂觀的她除了能自己搭乘LRT上班，業餘時也喜歡彈鋼琴，划船及寫小說。Penny有很多蘋果的產品，主要是因為它們內建的有聲功能，能讓她像明眼人一樣無障礙地使用，如用App召Uber或Grab，讓她自由地在城市裡移動。相對於全盲，重聽且找不到工作只能待在家裡的丈夫，Penny需要付出更多的心力去維持這段婚姻。

Ken and Penny work together in a massage centre. Ken manages the massage centre and is struggling to come to terms with his mother’s recent death. Penny lives an active life filled with her many hobbies and taking care of her ailing husband. Their lives seem ordinary, except that they are blind. In The Dark provides us an intimate observation of two people and moves us away from stereotypes, focusing instead on their strengths, dreams and hopes for the future.
