Historical Development

  • 2003: The University System of Taiwan (UST) was trialled.
  • 2003: The cross-campus UST Cultural Studies Program was established.
  • 2003: Office for the UST Cultural Studies Program was established at National Chiao Tung University.
  • 2004: Offices for the UST Cultural Studies Program were established at both National Central University and National Tsing Hua University.
  • 2008: The UST was officially established with the support of the Ministry of Education “Aim For Top University Project.”
  • 2009: Office for the UST Cultural Studies Program was established at National Yang Ming University.
  • 2010: The Preparatory Office for the International Institute of Cultural Studies (UST) was established.
  • 2012: The International Master’s Program in Inter-Asia Cultural Studies (IACS-UST) began recruiting students.
  • 2012: The International Institute for Cultural Studies at the University System of Taiwan (IICS-UST) was officially established.
  • 2014: The Ministry of Education’s “Aim for Top University Project” launched in 2005 – initially a $50 billion project over a five-year timeframe – ended in 2017. The UST “Aim for Top University Project” ended on March 31, 2014.
  • 2015: The International Institute for Cultural Studies (IICS-NCTU) was promoted to a college-level institute at National Chiao Tung University to support IICS-UST.
  • 2018: The college-level IICS-NCTU was renamed as the International Center for Cultural Studies (ICCS-NCTU).
  • 2018-2022: The ICCS-NYCU received funding as part of the High Education SPROUT Project through the Ministry of Education. The five-year joint project “Conflict, Justice, and Decolonization: Critical Studies in Inter-Asian Societies” was launched.
  • 2019-2021: ICCS-NYCU received funding from CHCI-Mellon Foundation and launched the two-year Global Humanities Institute project.
  • 2021: National Yang Ming University and National Chiao Tung University merged into National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU).
  • 2023: ACS Institute International Student Workshop to be launched.
  • 2023-2027: The ICCS-NYCU received funding as part of the High Education SPROUT Project through the Ministry of Education again. The five-year joint project “Conflict, Justice, Decolonization 2.0: Asia in Transition in the 21st Century” has launched.
