Social Governance and Transnational Influence of Contemparary Mainstram Chinese Film and Television

Principle Investigator:Yu-hui Tai

Since the 1990s, Tai has been working on research projects on the transformation of the Chinese newspaper industry from the Mao era to the Deng Xiaoping-led market economy. Subsequently, with the expansion of globalization and regionalization, the scale of the Chinese language cultural market has continued to grow, encompassing mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, as well as the Chinese communities in Singapore, Malaysia, and globally, becoming the core of the East Asian regional cultural market. Tai 's research project consists of several parts. Firstly, analyzing the media policies continuously released by the Xi Jinping regime to study social governance and the transformation of "new individuals" in the Xi era. Secondly, examining the subordinate relationship between China's state-owned media and private media, and exploring how a monitoring system is established through media platforms to achieve stability and control. Thirdly, analyzing the media characteristics of the new era under the Xi regime, including how China's mainstream film and television cultural products regain recognition from the market and consumers, as well as their social influence.
