Geopolitical networks in individual media
Principle Investigator:Grace Ying
Ying is currently a Ph.D. student in the Institute of Social Research and Cultural Studies at National Yang-Ming Chiao Tung University. Her research interests include media and sound studies, as well as Taiwanese-American ethnic identity research. Her doctoral dissertation will focus on the democratic movements of Taiwanese-Americans in the 1970s and 1980s, using print and sound media as a starting point, exploring how the "Voice of Taiwan," which utilized sound as its communication foundation, connected the geographical landscapes of Taiwan and the United States through auditory means. This study will examine the relationship between humans and machines from the perspective of the history of technological development. It aims to explore how these two entities mutually influence and shape each other, allowing Taiwanese-Americans to resist external pressures and establish their own position. By doing so, they became an essential democratic force during Taiwan's authoritarian era that cannot be overlooked.
