Abstact:
The semiconductor industry is one of Taiwan's core industries.
In view of the labor issues embedded in this sector, NYCU School of Law and the International Center for Cultural Studies (ICCS) have, for many years, engaged with issues concerning migrant workers and labor.
This event, organized under Subproject 3, "Migration, Unequal Citizenship, and Critical Legal Studies," features a lecture by Assistant Professor Ting-Chien Chen of the Department of Geography at National Kaohsiung Normal University.
The session will also include responses from Associate Professor Yu-Fan Chiu, the project's principal investigator, Professor Mei-Lin Pan, and Postdoctoral Researcher Chiung-Chih Chen, who will jointly focus on the governance of migrant labor in Taiwan's semiconductor industry.
Specializing in economic and population geography, Assistant Professor Ting-Chien Chen will adopt a Global Production Network (GPN) perspective to examine how the state, corporations, and labor-market intermediaries jointly shape the migrant labor regime in Taiwan's semiconductor industry.
She will also guide us in reflecting on broader issues of labor governance, risk shifting, and power asymmetries.
