Abstract:

How can moving images become a method of social inquiry, a means of communicating research, and a space for imagining alternative forms of life? Organized by the CJD project in collaboration with Dr. Vincent Delbos-Klein, this workshop explores the methodological and creative possibilities of filmic sociology. Bringing together researchers, filmmakers, artist-activists, and students, the workshop provides a collaborative space for presenting audiovisual works-in-progress, discussing research questions and methodological choices, and exchanging feedback to support the development of participants’ projects. Rather than screening complete films, the event focuses on presentations and collective discussion of the works, their research processes, and their creative challenges.

The workshop engages with four interconnected themes: the sociology of the image, sociology through images, the social implications of digital technologies, and the ethical and epistemological limits of filming. Through interdisciplinary dialogue, participants will reflect on the relationship between audiovisual experimentation and social research. By foregrounding reflexivity and collective learning, the workshop aims to foster new perspectives on film as both a creative practice and a mode of sociological inquiry.
