My research concerns about the role and consequences of SEZs as development tools to accelerate regional industrialization and national economic growth. Governments implement exclusive policies in special zones to lower the trade cost of administration, taxation, finance and logistics, and loosen the customs control on transnational business. By examining the land displacement history of SEZs in China, this research has interests to know how the state used SEZs to create the new political-economic space and muddle through the juridical and ideological disputes, finally realized the accumulation of land-labor-capital by dispossession.
