Pagoda Building Tai Jinnong: Creation and Thought between Literature and History
Principle Investigator:Lin Xu
This project considers the life and work of Tai Jinnong, a May Fourth scholar whose career and work crossed the Taiwan Strait, to understand the evolution of the Cross-Strait relations in modern China. His writing that is between literature and history importantly reflects the burden and entanglement of the Chinese civil war, so much so that he had to “speak about history” and resort to calligraphy to convey his political thoughts. Tai may not be able to join the development of the Chinese contemporary, but his life and work reveals the deep reflection on the socialist transformation of China.
