Title:Tracing feminist origins of Marx in China
Speaker:Rebecca Karl (Professor of History at New York University; Fellow at Center for Chinese Studies at the National Library (国家图书馆汉学研究中心), Spring 2019.)
Time:2019/05/07(TUE),13:20-16:20
Venue:Room 106A, HA2 Bldg, NCTU 交通大學人社二館106教室

Rebecca Karl teaches in the History Department at New York University. Her work explores modern China's intellectual-cultural history, global change, and conceptual histories so as to understand the ways in which China was violently integrated into the global capitalist world system of economics, culture, and society. Her current project focuses on economic philosopher and translator Wang Yanan and the worlds of economic thinking in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s.  She is the co-translator and co-editor (with Lydia Liu and Dorothy Ko) of The Birth of Chinese Feminism: Essential Texts in Transnational Theory (Columbia 2013) and the author, most recently, of The Magic of Concepts: History and the Economic in Twentieth-Century China (Duke 2017) and of the forthcoming China's Revolutions: From the Taipings to Xi Jinping (Verso 2019).

* The talk will be conducted in English. 講座將以英語進行
