Supercut–Popular Memory: The “soft montage”as a site of struggle for popular memory.
Principle Investigator:Hsin-I Lin
The research aims to address the following questions based on the aforementioned works and theoretical directions: As new media platforms provide vast archives, supercut montages face a massive database of images, a space where historical consciousness and narrative unfold through continuous compression, decoding, and repeated cropping. This space is also a site of struggle for popular memory. How does the negotiation of cross-code semantics in image coding take place through algorithmic codes for the reclamation and reconstruction of history? Does this reconstructed archaeological supercut of images provide new codes of image and new paths of viewing?
