【Abstract】
New financial technologies, or “fintech,” are not only changing what banks and businesses do, but also how ordinary money users think and feel about money. This talk considers the state-led development of a thriving fintech sector in Singapore and the experiments this national economic strategy enrolls citizens in. It argues that the expansion of both expert and lay fintech knowledges reconstitutes present economic problems as conditions that are unsolvable by money in its current forms, and encourages people to relate to the novel arrangements that their fintech usage puts them in as the makings of a better future.
