Semiconductor Supply Chain Diversification: Understanding Taiwan’s Chip Prospects in the Southbound Countries
半導體供應鏈多元化:解析臺灣在南向國家的晶片產業前景

Taiwan has become a critical hub in the global semiconductor industry, playing a central role in international technology supply chains. Taiwan produces approximately 40% of the world’s semiconductor chips and around 90% of the most advanced chips, particularly leading-edge nodes such as 5nm and below. This global leadership is largely driven by TSMC, the world’s largest and most advanced contract chip manufacturer. Taiwan’s semiconductor ecosystem is closely connected with international partners across different stages of the supply chain, including the United States, China, Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia. However, geopolitical tensions, technological competition, and concerns over supply chain resilience have accelerated global efforts toward semiconductor supply chain diversification. In this changing environment, Southbound countries—including India, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia—are becoming increasingly significant in semiconductor manufacturing, investment, talent development, and technology cooperation. Taiwan’s engagement with these countries presents both opportunities and challenges for future semiconductor development.
This online discussion aims to explore Taiwan’s semiconductor prospects in Southbound countries by examining emerging regional dynamics, industrial cooperation, investment opportunities, and challenges related to semiconductor supply chain transformation.
