CALL FOR PARTICIPATION IN MUSLIM FILM FESTIVAL WORKING GROUP
In an increasingly globalized and interconnected world, the need to learn to coexist in a multicultural society becomes urgent. It is essential to know the “Other” as a first step to understand, respect, and interact with the other person or the other group, in order to achieve a tolerant cohabitation in a more just and equal world. Therefore, we consider the Muslim Film Festival is a window of opportunity to introduce Taiwanese and international students studying in Taiwan, as well as the general public in Taiwan, to realities from other social contexts, spiritual beliefs, and traditions. The Muslim Film Festival focuses on the social issues related to conflicts, displacement, migration, exclusion, gender violence or inequalities, and actions of civil disobedience existing in these countries. It is equally important to counter the spread vision of Islam and the Muslim societies as a single and unified whole, so it is essential to remark the existence of different practices of Islam and the divergences among Muslims in each of the countries/communities represented in the Festival.
We call all interested PhD students and Master’s students of the SRCS and currently enrolled IACS students to participate in the working group to organize this festival. The meetings of the Working group will be held between October and December 2019. Selected students will participate in discussion groups related to a selection of films. Students would watch the film together, then there would be discussion about it. Each week one film will be discussed, for a total of 6 to 8 films, tentatively. Each student will have to be in charge of one film, pre-visualizing it, directing the discussion of it, leading questions to other participants, and writing a final article about it that will be included in the lay-out of the Festival.
We are looking for 6 participants. Each member of the working group will be awarded 10,000 NTD each for the whole period.
