Announcement and Call for Papers
« The island – insularity, archipelagos – a geophilosophical issue »
Dear colleagues and friends,
It is our pleasure to let you know that the next Summer University promoted by our network will take place in Greece (on the island of Rhodes) from the 10th of July to the 14th of July 2020.
The subject of our conference will be : « The island – insularity, archipelagos – a geophilosophical issue ».
This Summer University is open to all scholars, teachers, advanced students, independent researchers who have an interest in the subject.
No registration fees are required, but the participants will have to take in charge their travel and accommodation expenses, although the organization will try to arrange special deals with local hotels to obtain better prices.
The call for papers is now open. Propositions (with a brief presentation of the topic and its development of around 300 words) can be addressed to the organizers –in English, French or Spanish—before the 1st of March 2020. Participants can rely on any sort of material for their presentations, including movies, theater plays, performances, poetry, etc. Our general approach of the subject is transdisciplinary – from philosophy to literature passing through history, anthropology, sociology, cultural studies, decolonial studies, gender studies, etc.
This is our 7th Summer University – international as ever, transcultural and cosmopolitan. Previous Summer Universities have been going on from 2007 with «Cultural Dissent » in Chilhac, France, to «Orient, disorientation, reorientation» in Istanbul, Turkey, in 2018. Our network is in constant renewal – as shows the fact that this new event will be hosted by the Laboratory of Research on Practical Philosophy of the Aegean University, a University set on six islands in the North-Eastern part of Greece.
Our Summer Universities always have been inspired by the spirit of what Michel Foucault called « an ontology of the present ». This ontological approach is materialized through our project: we will meet in one of the islands of the Aegean, the Eastern part of Greece, an external frontier of Europe where the migrant and refugee crisis is still ongoing. In other terms : the island as a poetic, metaphysical, utopian issue – but not only...
