THE DEMISE OF (STATE) MULTILATERALISM IN THE MULTIPOLAR WORLD; WHY?
多極世界中(國家)多邊主義的滅亡;為什麼?
Speaker: Goran Fejic
Date/Time: 11/27 WED 14:00-17:00
Venue: R106A, HA Building at NCTU
Why is multilateralism (the idea that international relations should be shaped by commonly agreed rules and implemented for the benefit of all) undergoing a crisis today, precisely at the time when the world seems to become genuinely multi-polar?
為什麼在世界看似真正變的多極化的時候,多邊主義(國際關係應由共同商定的規則來塑造並為所有人造福的想法)正處於危機當中?
About the Speaker: Goran Fejic, economist, former Yugoslav diplomat and UN field coordinator and practitioner, reflects on the evolution of multilateralism through its different phases, since the end of WWII. He analyses, in particular, the contradictory political interpretations of the end of the Cold War and the effects these interpretations have had on the behaviour of states and the evolution of multilateralism. He sees a link between its current crisis and the rise of populisms across the world.
