Rohith Vemula: His Mother's Son | 2017 | 18mins | NDTV
On January 17, 2016, Rohith Vemula, a 26-year-old Dalit scholar of Hyderabad University hanged himself after he was suspended on orders of the Education Ministry after being branded as casteist, extremist and anti-national. Protests erupted on campuses across the country, and overnight Rohith Vemula was transformed into an icon of Dalit resistance. Since then his mother Radhika has been keeping her son's memory alive. She has spent the last year travelling across the country, demanding justice for her son and challenging the official reasons for his death, even as the family struggles to make a living.
Fandry | 2013 | 104mins | Nagraj Manjule
Fandry ("pig") is a film in the Marathi language. It is a story set in the background of caste discrimination depicting the love of a 13-year-old boy. Jabya, who is from a Dalit family, lives in a village near Ahmednagar. He falls in love with a girl who is from the upper caste. The film won the Grand Jury Prize at the Mumbai International Film Festival, and Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film of a Director.

Reading “Castes in India” (1916) by B R Ambedkar
B R Ambedkar (1891-1956) was a jurist, economist and politician from the Dalit community, the untouchables. He was India’s first law minister after independence and the principal architect of the Constitution of India. He launched active movements against untouchability in India since the 1920s, and had a decade-long debate with Ghandi over the caste problem in India. He published the book Annihilation of Caste in 1936, in which he strongly criticized Hindu orthodox religious leaders and the caste system. The article “Caste in India: Their Mechanism, Genesis and Development” was presented before the Anthropology Seminar organized at Columbia University in the year 1916.
